ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ස්ත්‍රී ලිංග ඡේදනය/ female genital mutilation (FGM) සඳහා හදිසි ක්‍රියාමාර්ගයක් අවශ්‍යය බව පෙන්වා දෙමින් එංගලන්තයේ වෙසෙන ශ්‍රී ලාංකික වෛද්‍යවරයෙකු වන වෛද්‍ය පියල් පෙරේරා ජනපතිවරයාට ලිපියක් යොමු කර තිබේ. ලිපියක් ඒ මගින් මානව හිමිකම් කඩවීම් මෙන්ම කාන්තාවන්ගේ සහ ගැහැණු ළමයින්ගේ ආසාදන, දරු ප්‍රසූතියේදී ඇතිවන සංකූලතා සහ දිගුකාලීන මානසික කම්පන ඇතුළු බරපතල සෞඛ්‍ය අවදානම් ද ඇති කරන බවයි ඔහු පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ. එය කිසිදු ප්‍රමිතියකින් තොරව වෛද්‍ය කටයුතු පිළිබඳව නුපුහුනු පිරිසක් විසින් සිදු කරන බවද ඔහු අවධාරණය කරයි. වෛද්‍ය පියල් පෙරේරා මහතා මේ පිලිබඳව සාක්ෂි සටහන් සහිතව සිය ෆේස්බුක් පිටුවේද සටහන් කර තිබුනා.
