Ex-soldier arrested after biting cops

By Norman Palihawadane

A former soldier was taken into custody for biting the face and hand of two policemen who intervened to settle a domestic dispute in Tangalle yesterday.

The two policemen, a constable and a sergeant, visited the ex-soldier’s house, following a complaint that he was assaulting his wife. When they arrived at the house, they saw the ex-soldier beating his wife.

When they tried to save the victim, the assailant bit the face of one policeman and the hand of the sergeant.

The suspect, addicted to drugs, had beaten his wife as she had refused to sell her motorcycle.

The injured sergeant and the constable were admitted to the Tangalle hospital and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect would be produced before the Tangalle Magistrate, the police said, adding that he had been arrested previously for drug related offences.
